As the month of Thanksgiving winds down, the turkey platters returned to the out-of-the-way shelf, and the last of the big meal’s leftovers disappeared from the refrigerator, it’s nice to take a moment to reflect.
Many writers are participating this month in NaNoWriMo, aka National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to kick start a novel by writing toward a goal of 50K words in the month of November. It’s a huge challenge but the community of writers is amazingly supportive and funny, so it has been cool to participate. (I am still participating, and I have about 6K left. I can do it!)
No matter how you occupy your days, November is a time when many focus on gratitude, just a hairsbreadth from the winter season’s front edge. To quote Lin-Manuel Miranda “Look around, look around, how lucky we are to be alive right now.”
Our attitude makes all the difference. Would that we all continue to feel gratitude for all the wonderfulness in our lives, even when the winter holiday season kicks into a frenzy.
Wishing NaNoWriMo participants all the energy you need to hit your goals. To all, a wish of continued gratitude in the days to come. As for me, I will be writing with my fountain pen and drinking tea (hot, now that it’s getting cold out), and giving thanks for my amazing family. See you in December!
Only 6K? You got that! Way to go.
Thanks, Allie! I’m hitting my stride so I’ll keep going after November with the intent of moving at a comparable pace. I know you are always writing too! Cheers!
